Orlando Young, Master IPC Trainer
Orlando Young Master IPC Trainer

Who runs your training

25 years on manufacturing floors.

Orlando started out building boards, not teaching. He moved into training because he kept watching good operators get handed a binder and a bench and left to work it out on their own. Twenty-five years in manufacturing later, he has run more than 500 trainings across San Diego County in the last four years alone.

He holds Master IPC Trainer credentials across eight IPC standards, including every one we teach. That is the level above Certified IPC Trainer, and it means IPC has qualified him to train and certify other trainers, not just operators. Very few people in the county hold it across this many standards.

He teaches the way the work actually happens. What the standard says, why it says it, and what an inspector is going to reject on Monday morning.

Master IPC Trainer certifications

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620
Master IPC Trainer is the highest instructor level IPC issues. It authorizes training and certifying other trainers, not only operators.

What we do

Four reasons shops call us.

We come to you

Training runs in your building, on your schedule. Nobody buys a plane ticket or loses a week to travel.

New hires

Certify people as you bring them on. You are not waiting on somebody else's course calendar to open up.

Whole departments

Run an entire line or shift through in a single visit. One trip, one invoice, one set of records.

Recertifications

Certifications expire every two years. We track the dates with you and come back before anyone lapses.

How it works

Five steps from first call to certificate.

Most shops go from the first phone call to a trainer on site in under two weeks.

01

Tell us what you need

Which standard, how many people, and roughly when. A five minute call is usually enough to scope it.

02

Quote and paperwork

Fixed price per student with the IPC exam credit built in, plus a separate line for books and kits. W9 and EIN go over the same day. You sign, we invoice, net 30.

03

We pre-coordinate

Dates locked, exam credits purchased, books and kits ordered and shipped, and we confirm the room for bookwork and the bench for hands-on work.

04

Training on site

Day one is bookwork and the exam. For A-620 there is a second day of hands-on workmanship building a board. A-610 has no hands-on portion.

05

Certification and records

Every student is registered by name and the certification is traceable through IPC, now the Global Electronics Association. You get the roster with the final invoice.

The cost

$700 a student, about 70% less.

The price difference is mostly travel, hotels, and lost floor time. We took those out of the equation.

$0

Travel

We drive to your facility. Nobody leaves the building and nobody buys a plane ticket.

~1 week

To get started

From signed quote to a certified trainer on your floor. No waiting on a public course calendar.

70%

Less per student

$700 a head against roughly $2,400 at an outside training center.

What it costs to certify a team of 10

The same ten people, four different ways to get them certified.

One visit. Materials sourced and delivered, quoted separately.
Outside training center ~$24,000~$2,400 per student × 10

Hiring a full-time trainer $80,000+ / yearFixed annual cost, however few you certify
You save $73,000 in year one, before benefits and payroll tax
What $700 per student covers
  • A Master IPC Trainer on siteAt your facility, on your dates.
  • The course and the examBookwork, hands-on where the standard calls for it, and the certification test.
  • IPC exam creditsOne per student, purchased upfront on your behalf.
  • Records and rosterEvery student registered by name and traceable through IPC.
Materials, quoted separately
  • Books and workmanship kits, sourced and deliveredWe work out exactly what your class needs, buy it, and bring it with us. You do not chase down part numbers or place orders. One quote, one invoice, nothing for your team to coordinate.

Outside provider pricing is an estimate based on published rates for comparable courses. The in-house trainer figure uses an $80,000 base salary and does not include benefits, payroll tax, or the cost of keeping that person certified. Your actual quote depends on standard, headcount, and location. Computers for the bookwork portion are supplied by the client.

Outside that radius? Ask anyway. We quote travel separately and it is often still cheaper than sending a crew away for a week.

Questions

What shops ask on the first call.

What does the $700 per student cover?

A Master IPC Trainer at your facility, the course itself, and the IPC exam credit for each student. Exam credits are bought upfront and are non-refundable once purchased, so we confirm your roster before we buy them. Books and workmanship kits are quoted separately, since what you need depends on the standard and the class size.

What do we need to provide?

A conference room for the bookwork portion, a workbench for hands-on work if you are running A-620, and computers for your students. That is it. Books and workmanship kits are on us to source, purchase, and deliver.

Who handles books and kits?

We do. We work out what your class needs, order it, and bring it with you rather than sending you a shopping list. Books come as a hard copy, a digital copy that installs on one machine, or a document subscription, and we price the options when we quote. Materials appear as their own line on the invoice, separate from the per-student training price.

How long does a class take?

Two to five days depending on the standard. A group of about seven usually gets through it in that window. A-610 is bookwork and an exam. A-620 adds a hands-on day where students build a board.

How many people can you run at once?

Seven per class is the sweet spot. Larger groups get split across consecutive days so nobody is standing around waiting for bench time.

Is the certification traceable?

Yes. Every student is registered by name and the certification is issued through IPC, now the Global Electronics Association. It carries the same weight as a certification from any training center.

Do you handle recertifications?

Yes, for every standard we teach. Send us your roster and expiration dates and we will schedule around them.

How fast can you actually start?

Roughly a week from a signed quote. The limiting factor is usually books and kits arriving, not our calendar, and we start that clock the day you sign.

How does billing work?

We invoice on contract execution with net 30 terms. A portion is due upfront to cover the IPC exam credits and the books and kits, since we purchase all of those before the class runs.
